Born in Hove, Sussex and educated in Norfolk during the 1960s, Chris went on to earn an Honours Degree in Fine Art from Leeds College of Art. Alongside developing a personal artistic practice, he enjoyed a fulfilling 30-year teaching career, including 25 years at a Kent grammar school. Since 2001, Chris has dedicated himself to painting full time.

An ‘on the spot’ painter, his process begins with sketches and small oil studies created directly in the landscape. These works serve both as finished pieces and as inspiration for larger paintings. Chris’s artistic journeys take him to the Sussex coast, the City of London and the Thames, and the North Norfolk coast, among other locations. Chris Daynes seeks to capture the ever-changing sensations of the landscape-flights of birds, shifting light, passing visitors, and the subtle sounds and movements that shape a place over time.
