Joanna Commings
Born in London to an artist father, Joanna has been painting and drawing for as long as she can remember. While originally focused on portraiture, a move to Cornwall in 2002 sparked a deep love for landscape painting. Now based on the Somerset/Devon borders, with easy access to inspiring locations like the Quantocks, Exmoor, Dartmoor, and Cornwall, Joanna’s work is shaped by regular excursions and on-site sketches.
In the studio, Joanna primarily use acrylics on canvas or board, often working on multiple pieces at once. Joanna’s intuitive, impressionistic style captures the atmosphere, light, and colour of the landscape, with a special interest in reflections on water. Increasingly drawn to abstraction, her paintings evoke the mood and essence of the places they explore.
