John Greig is a self-taught artist whose work captures the essence and atmosphere of the places that inspire him. Growing up in South London, he developed a deep appreciation for urban life, which later expanded during his time living in Portugal and Prague. Since moving to Cornwall in 2006, he has become an integral part of the local art scene, co-founding Back Road Artwork in St Ives and opening his own studio and gallery at Nansledan, near Newquay, in 2019. His art is regularly featured at the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea and can be found in esteemed galleries such as Rowbury Gallery in Salcombe and Sweetlime in St Ives.

John’s work seeks to evoke the feeling and memory of a place rather than merely depicting it visually. His Beach Life series celebrates Cornwall’s expansive skies, serene landscapes, and the interplay of figures in nature, while his City Life paintings focus on capturing the ambiance of urban environments through dynamic compositions of light, shapes, and structures. Constantly exploring new materials and techniques, John’s art is a vivid exploration of the connection between place and emotion.
